Most brands forget to budget for these. They add $30-75 to every demo shift.
Best practices
BAs are typically 1099 contractors. Weekly pay builds loyalty and reduces no-shows. The best BAs will prioritize brands that pay fast.
Do not bake mileage into the hourly rate. Reimburse it separately based on distance driven. The 2026 IRS rate is $0.70/mile. This is cleaner for tax purposes and fairer for BAs driving long distances.
Most brands hire BAs as independent contractors (1099). This means you do not withhold taxes, and the BA handles their own. If you hire the same BA for regular weekly shifts, consult an accountant — the IRS may consider them a W2 employee.
Before the first demo, agree on: hourly rate, shift length, what is included (setup, teardown, reporting), mileage reimbursement, and payment timeline. A simple email confirmation works.
